🤖 What Is This?
HatGPT is a sarcastic, DEF CON-savvy offline AI chatbot that spams the DEF CON peer-to-peer mesh via Meshtastic. It lives inside a construction hard hat and answers your questions about hacker history, badges, contests, and chaos. Built by Marba$ of DC207, it runs on a Raspberry Pi, a local large language model, and an unhealthy amount of (poorly constructed) Python. It’s rude... and sometimes insightful. Kinda like Marba$.
🛠️ Why Was It Made?
HatGPT was born after DEF CON 32, where I kept seeing folks in hard hats roaming the halls like post-apocalyptic sysadmins. Shoutout to the Hard Hat Society... your vibe was inspiring I also wanted an excuse to experiment with local large language models, peer-to-peer Meshtastic radios, and stuffing AI into weird places. This project smashed all that together in one beautiful, stupid helmet. Is it perfect? Definitely not. But it works (mostly). Got ideas? Roast me. Submit trivia. Help improve the dataset. Let’s make the Hat smarter, snarkier, and even weirder together.
📡 Talk Nerdy To Me
Want answers straight from the Hat? Connect to the DEF CON mesh using Meshtastic and tune your device to the main channel. Ask your question by sending a message that starts with @hatgpt
. You can DM it for privacy... or shout it into the mesh for all the hackers to see. HatGPT doesn’t judge. (Well, actually, it does. Loudly.) Give it some time, it's a Raspberry Pi and it might be working through a queue of messages. If you're lame and don't have a Meshtastic radio, come find Marba$ and he's got a bunch on him to help you learn about this stuff, and he might give you a demo if you want to see it in action.
